What pistons?

What kind of pistons should I get? Or does it make a difference? Cast, Hyperwhathacacallit or forged? I think forged would be better but would I see a difference? I am just going .10 over over on my 305 with just cleaning up the heads with a one of the Crane cams and maybe a a new manifold for the TPI.

Re: What pistons?

ugh, why bother boring a 305 out and getting pistons for it?
Forged is purely for over 7000RPM racing, or forced induction. Before that, it's a waste of time.
Hypereutectic is cool, but for what you're doing, cast should be fine.

Re: What pistons?

yes but for the same price as the 305 pistons he could buy a set of 350 pistons... and not have to pay for a bore and dip/magnaflux

Re: What pistons?

Nothing wrong with a 305. But if you're staring at the bare block, that's the point in time where it's the CHEAPEST time of your life to simply find a 350 block, and continue with 350 parts. They are the same price or cheaper for pistons, and everything else moves over. You're looking at ~50HP, and it's
pretty cheap right now. Later once it's assembled it's hard to justify, but right now the time is right....
(Listen to the devil on your right shoulder saying "get the 350 block! Then just tell people it's a 305, no one will ever know!")
