hi, i have a 1986 305 tpi iroc and latley it just wont run right. i just had the fuel pump replaced but sometimes when i go to start the car i cant here the fuel pump come on and it wont start. i checked both fuses and they were good so i figured that it was the relay because every now and then i could wiggle it around and then the car would start right up. but now the relay dosnt seem to do anything, the car always starts but runs like crap and when i unplug the relay the car still runs like crap but it does run and from what ive herd the car cant run without the fuel pump relay.
soooo do you think its the relay or have any of you guys had this same prob and could help me out

 

the car CAN run without the FP relay... will it be hard to start YES your oil pressure sending unit will act as a switch when it sees 4 psi of oil pressure it will turn on the Fuel pump... it may just take some cranking to build enough pressure.

the FP relay may be playing a small part in your troubles but it cant affect fuel pressure well other than if you have it or not.... what about your fuel pressure what is it like?
