RPM issue

Well that past wk Ive been noticing some issues while coming to a stop. For 20 miles per hour and down the RPM with go to 500 then on its own go to 1000 without me touching the gas pedal. Its very weried and Ive been trying to restore the car for a month now and Im having good success but this RPM issue has got me puzzled. Ive been checking for a vac leak and fixed 2 of them and even some exposed wires that went to the throttle body but any ideas would be great. Thanks

Re: RPM issue

Do you get any trouble codes? does your check engine light light up when you first start the car? (or is it burned out?)

Vacuum leaks are one of few problems that won't throw a code. You can use an unlit propane bottle to help search for vacuum leaks. The extra fuel will kick up the idle speed.
Otherwise, check throttle position sensor, idle air control valve, etc.

Re: RPM issue

No codes at all. It does work. Even when 3 wires were exposed to each other and I have no clue why that was like that and I cant believe it didnt throw a code there. Im mostly back road driving around 55 and drives great. Great gas mileage. Im waiting on a repair manuel I got on ebay to get more of an idea on this engine. Im not to familiar with it with this 3.1 engine. Can those sensor be cleaned out.

Re: RPM issue

I'm very untrusting of guys working in brake/muffler shops. They know brakes, and mufflers, aside from that i'm leery.
It very well could be that though. I'm no expert on V6's, auto trannys, or FI though, so I'll back out of this thread....
