power or manual steering?
which is better?
manual or power steering on a camaro?
im thinking of making my camaro have manual but i have no clue what it will feel like. is it worth the effort?
and how long does it take to put in the manual steering box??
i hear people using s-10 manual steering box. what year of s-10 should i take the steering box out of?
camaro is just going to be used for track and summer driving.

manual steering boxes are good for drag cars looking for the extra 2HP of not having to turn the pump.... in a street car that might in its lifetime see the strip once or twice... it isnt worth it... first if i would but an electric water pump on...

Personally i would sitck with the power steering, i used to drive my dads 69 gto with manual steering, and it got really annoying to turn at a dead stop, the only advantage it gives you as SpitotRs305 said is that tiny 2 or so hp because your engine doesnt have to work to turn the pump. But the choice would lie on if your using it for your DD, a track car or? Though it is pretty nice once you get moving

For a daily driver, stick with power steering. For a drag only car, you can easily switch to manual steering.
Once you're moving, manual steering feels fine but it's those low speed turns such as in a parking lot where you'll really appreciate power steering.
Because of the increased torque multiplication required to turn the wheels without power assist, manual steering boxes have more turns from stop to stop. While a power box has about 3-4 turns stop to stop, a manual box has 7. Since using a manual box requires more leverage to turn, a small steering wheel reduces that leverage. Manual steering cars usually have large steering wheels.
There's lots of third gens driving on the streets that have been converted to manual steering. As long as you don't have large wide front tires and are willing to put up with hard steering at low speeds, you can convert to manual steering.
Manual steering boxes can only be found in S10/S15 trucks that came with a 4 cylinder engine but not all 4 cylinder models have manual steering. You want the steering box that has 4 bolts on the top cover. This is a direct replacement for the power box and can be found on 84 and up models. The earlier boxes have 3 bolts on the top cover and have a different size pitman arm shaft. You should install a third gen pitman arm on the box to keep the same steering geometry. The S10 pitman arm is a slightly different length.
