new fuel pump wont run any ideas

I have replaced my fuel pump in my 87 iroc 5.7 If i run a wire from the g terminal on the on board diag. to 12 volts relay kicks in but no fuel pump. could I have a bad ecm or maybe hahaha it is a bad fuel pump again. If the ecm is bad how can I tell? Plus I have gotten no trouble codes. Any suggestions or Ideas would be greatly apperiated. plus the fuel gauge is not working, It registers 3/4 turn the key on and it goes to full with no gas in the tank Does anyone think it might be a bad sending unit? I 've had the tank filled with fuel for 5 months before this problem started. It did run with the previous fuel pump. and a one point when jumped to termianal g it did clunk when it tried to run. Can the pumps just go bad from sitting even if it was a brand new pump?

I had a problem kind of like that, I didnt realize on my 86 that the fuel pump fuse was under the hood next to the battery, have you checked this?

I'd suspect the pump itself. Try wiring the pump directly to 12v and see if it works. Strange that a new pump would be bad, though.

Re: new fuel pump wont run any ideas

I had the same problem on my 91 after replacing the fuel pump in the tank. I was worried when it didn't work after all that work. Then I changed the fuel pump relay and bam it works great. You may want to check the relay if you haven't yet.
