Cam Advice?

Anyone have any suggestions for a cam upgrade for a stock 1988 305 TPI IROC? Looking to get more of a "rough idle".

THanks

Re: Cam Advise?

you only have so many options with stock spring and such, from what ive heard the lt1 cam is the way to go you get it for dirt cheap and it will improve your performance, and idle, with out *&^%ing anything up.

Re: Cam Advise?

cant really do much, instead of the lt1 cam i would just throw 1.6rr, a nice lil hp increase and the increased lift will add alil duration to the stock cam, there are alot of cams out there, start looking for stock replacements, my dad threw in a 350tpi cam that is alil more aggressive than the stock 350tpi cam and put it in our 305tpi 86 TA...it sounded good.

just do a cam upgrade and a head upgrade... u'll get more outa it, better numbers, better flow, more HPPPP! 305 heads are cheap. either port the hell outa the stock ones but i would throw on 305 world SR torqers, there 800$ assembled can handle more lift and matched with a mild cam u can get 60hp at the wheels... if ur exhaust is upgraded and sum intake mods

The LT1 factory cam is a cheap way to upgrade, but it's not really a specific cam for your motor. The crane 2032 cam would be a nice upgrade from stock that would have a mild lope to it in a 305. Plus it wouldn't require much, if any, changes to the heads such as springs, machining guides for retainer clearance, etc.

It'd sound milder (i.e. less lope) in a bigger motor such as a 350.
