RPMs too high

I don't know what's wrong with my car. I have a 5 speed 89 v6 camaro. And when I am going 60 my RPMs are at 5000. My car redlines at 5. I want to go faster! Any ideas what could be wrong or what I can do to make it better?

Lol, are you in the right gear? That seems like a gear problem. Can you feel it shift all the way up? or does the stick just move.

Re: RPMs too high

I'm guessing, you have NO IDEA what RPM the engine is actually turning at; all you have to go on, is that funny trim package thing in your dash with the pointer that waves around when the engine speeds up or slows down, Right?

Probably nothing at all is wrong with your transmission or any of that.

Sounds lik, just like everybody else, your "tach" has failed; and is now reading WAY WAY WAY high. Sounds like, it's showing about 3 times what it should be reading.

Pretty typical really. That's how those things always break. That "sporty" image trim isn't to be taken seriously. Compare its reading to that from some sort of real test equipment (like a tune-up analyzer or something); and enjoy a good laugh.
