intake?
intake?
hello all.... here is another question for the boards.
i want to do the intake, head and cam swap in my 305 91 rs. i cant afford to buy all the parts at once so i thought about doing it in parts. first i want to buy and install the intake. my question is will i notice a differance in hp just buy switching the intakes?
i will not install the cam and heads until i have both those but i want to do the intake. a 350 will be in the future, maybe 2 years down the road. i want to learn on the 305 first so i dont mess up the 350. i may even wait on the heads and cam until i do get the 350.
so waht kind of differance will i notice with just the intake? it is the edelbrock performer tbi intake and one more thing, this is going to be a simple remove and replace thing correct?....lol

Re: intake?
probably won't notice much of a difference, an edelbrock performer is basically a stock replacement intake.
----------
it should basically be an r and r type deal provided it has egr provisions and such.

Re: intake?
You'll see a slight difference in power going with the Performer TBI intake since it has slightly more volume.
Otherwise you could try and port the stock intake since there is a relatively reasonable amount of material to work.

Re: intake?
would i be better off buying an adapter plate and going with a different intake? not really trying to get big hp gains yet. it is still the 305. but what ever i buy i do want to put on the 350. i am only looking to get about 300-350 hp... any more then that and i will just get in trouble!

Re: intake?
A stock TBI unit and chip wont support much more than 300hp anyway. An adaptor would be a decent way to go, if you get a low enough intake to clear the hood. The Weiand Stealth is a great intake and made for low clearance areas. Are you concerned about emissions?
Re: intake?
i do have to get a state inspection but they do not hook the sniffer up. basically as long as it "looks like it should go there" i should be fine. will i not notice a difference in any intake that i out on or will i not notice any out of the one i picked?
and now for the second question... can i put heads from a 350 on to a 305?

Re: intake?
You can, but you'll probably want LG4 305 heads if you're on a budget, anyway! they work great on 350 engines.
I personally think you are going in the wrong direction. Have you done anything to the exhaust yet? The TBI 305 has the WORST factory exhaust - especially the y-pipe - of any third gen. You should do a cat-back first, then a good y-pipe and cat, and then headers. All of that will work for your current 305 and later 350. After the exhaust is done, then go to the engine.
Next, you should get some 87 LG4 heads so that your TBI intake bolts on or get some older LG4 heads and then a carb intake with matching bolt pattern. Adapter for the TBI as well.
After that? Well, you 'll have new threads by then, I'm sure!
