Stock LG4 305 from an 83 Camaro, cam recommendations please
I have a stock 305 in my 83 Camaro with a 5 speed. I have a new intake with a new type carb, a Carter AFB, as we got tired of the old quada-jet. I have headers and that's about it. What would be a good improvement in performance with some street manners as for a cam? Is there much involved with going with a roller hyd cam? With a hotter cam, when will I have to replace the valve springs to avoid coil binding? Which springs would be good in my application? Thanks guys.

look at the summit brand line of cams with duration in the 204/214 or 214/224 range. the comp 980 springs will handle these fine (basically a quality stock replacement) and i would recommend new springs with the cam swap, regardless of lift/duration on the cam...those valve springs you have right now are 24 years old.

Actually I bought a rebuilt 305 from AutoZone 7 years ago and swapped it out. So that would make them maybe 7 years old. But springs are cheap and I'll replace them. Thanks for the reply.

Most likely they put the old springs back on the heads when they put it back together.
'83's are 25 years old now. . .
