Bad ignition switch???

I have a 1985 Sport Coupe Camaro, and here's what happened. I got my new alternator installed. I did it crreclty. I Disconnected the negative battery terminal before removing the alternator and everything. Well a few days later, the old belt broke. I put the new one on yesterday, again, properly. Then i started up the engine and it turned right over, everything fine. Then My mother started pulling some excess leaves out of the engine bay corner, near the driver's side windshield wiper, and then she said she saw some smoke, come from my relay. then my car just shut-off. i tried to turn it over again, but absolutley nothing happend. No Dinging, No hum from the Fuel pump, nothing. I replaced the relay. But still nothing. I'm almost certain that it's the ignition switch for some reason. Can somebody please help me???? Please??!!! I will be more than happy to help you out with your questions if you come to me.

Thanks,
Doug

This is TPI, right?

I'd suspect a fuseable link before the ignition switch.

Re: Bad ignition switch???

I'm having a very similar problem. I was removing my blower motor, and there was a spark inside it. I'm not sure if it's related, but now I get nothing when I turn the key - no fuel pump, no radio, no dinging, no dash lights at all, no wipers, I mean NOTHING. Of course it won't turn over, either. Ignition switch? I have no idea. Any thoughts?

Re: Bad ignition switch???

ok here's what happened. They said that the ignition wire got too close to my exhaust and go burnt through. They replaced the wire, and everythings good now. So, including the tow, checking the computer, and removing/installing the new wire, it's costing me 190.30. So im not getting too burnt.

Dude you didn't get burnt at all. Around here just the tow would cost you ninety bucks if it wer over a few miles.
