more than an exhaust leak?
well i heard a loud ticking coming from my engine so i popped the hood and could hear it was coming from the rear passenger side of the motor. i turn off the car and about 35 or 45 seconds later a puff of white smoke comes out and continues for another 30 seconds. I didn't start hearing the sound until today. yesterday i was on the highway and the car did overheat. could that have done anything. the cars an 87 iroc 305 TPI

Where was the smoke coming from? Check for coolant leaks. You may have a busted head gasket.
