tbi to tpi question

correct me if im wrong but the tpi stock, comes on an l98 enigne, if i do a top end swap to make my tbi l03 a tpi, that doesnt make it an l98 does it? Im just not seeing the line between the 2 engines except for the tpi setup anyone wanna explain it? Are the parts you order different when going for plugs and wires or just pertaining to the things i swap?

Re: tbi to tpi question

the tpi setup was used on both 305(LB9) and 350(L98),85and 86 had the 305 tpi only,87-up had the option of 305 or 350 tpi,i like the tpi setup alot better than the tbi,my iroc had the LB9 tpi motor in it and it was nice but i swapped in a 350 4bolt that was carb'd and havent been disappointed,id use the tpi setup opposed to the tbi setup but thats just me

Re: tbi to tpi question

TPI also had different heads, a better camshaft, better exhaust manifolds, and better exhaust. But the spark plugs and wires should be the same or very similar.

Re: tbi to tpi question

It depends on how much money you have. A TBI to TPI swap with just the intake, fuel pump, LT1 camshaft, and computer swap could cost $1000+. A 350 TPI swap could cost $4000+.

Re: tbi to tpi question

on one hand i ust want to do it, and rid myself of tbi lol, but on the other, i want it done right so i think im just gonna pick up an l98 thats kinda old and tear it down and rebuild a new one, i've got to talk to a buddy of mine who just had his engine redone and see where he got it, i dont care if it takes me years to build i want this thing right
