fuel and oil pressure numbers
i was just curious as to what the right numbers would be on a carburated 350. my fuel pressure gauge is reading ~13 psi and oil pressure at like 50 psi. i understand that there are alot of variables that would affect this. and some of these variables i do not know, because i did not build the engine.
any input?
thanks

Re: fuel and oil pressure numbers
Your FP is WAY WAY WAY too much. It's a wonder there's not gas spewing out the top of the carb.
Should be around 5-6 psi or so. 7, ABSOLUTE MAX. Carbs don't work off of fuel "pressure" the way FI does. As long as there's enough pressure to keep the fuel bowls full, then it's enough. About 3 psi is usually all it takes, but a couple extra psi, TO A POINT, doesn't hurt.
Setting that correctly might help out the rich condition somewhat. Probbaly won't magically cure it though.
After you get the FP and then the fuel level (float setting) right, do a search on the carb board on my userID and the words "transfer slot". Follow the procedure I give there in great detail for dialing in a carb to the engine's requirements.
50-55 hot cruising is about normal. Should be 20-30 hot idling. Might peg the gauge cold.

Re: fuel and oil pressure numbers
its only that high at idle it drops as the rpm's climb and its about 5 after i shut the engine off. i probably should have included that.
sofakingdom - thanks for all of your help so far and i am sure i need more of it.

Re: fuel and oil pressure numbers
last night i put a fuel pressure regulator and a new fuel filter on and i am running about ~6-7 psi on fuel pressure and it seems to be running better and even not as rich.
