Hi it looks like you know a lot about cars so I was wondering if I could ask your advice. I have a 85 transam TPI and I just dropped a new 87 firebird crate engine in it. It runs good except for getn up to 220-235degrees when i ride street for more than 10 min. I have a 185 degree thermostat,a new stock radiator,im not loosin coolant, and i just got the system flushed.Do you think the water pump is to blame? Also what original 305 parts do I need to change to benefit my 350's performance. I heard i need to change the 305 fuel injectors to 350's is this true. Any help is highly appreciated .
thanks

Is the lower air dam, plastic piece missing? If it is ,the car will over heat in a quick hurry,it is desighned to force air up into the radiator. The lower air dam is discontinued from the dealer for a Trans am,but HAWKSTHIRDGEN has them,YOUNGSFBODY has them also.
You can change T-stat,flush radiator, but you wont get it to quit over heating untill you get the lower air dam.Being a new engine,it will heat a little for awhile during break-in.But it should not get over 240,if it does then you have something going on for sure, watch the Temp gauge offten,if you think the water pump is bad, change it they dont cost that much.
The car will run on the 19lb injectors, the 21lb injectors would be better for more power.

Exactly what language is that?
As for the original poster, if you do not feel comfortable with that temp, if accurate, search the cooling board for a part number to a new temp switch to turn the fans on earlier.
As for the motor, off the top of my head, the knock sensor, injectors and chip. I'd also look up thw rewire/repinning to use the later ECMs and MAF relays as the POS MAF junk under the dash. You'll be happy you did before finding out that the part is $500+, iirc.

It's not overheating, all my GTAs ran ~220º.

Hey guys thanks for the new engine advice. I found out my over heating problem it was that when I changed it over it allows air into the system so all I had to do was let the car idle for 15min when cold turn the heater controls on and add coolant to the radiator till the air bubbles disappeared. Its a little trick streetlethal taught me. If you ever run into him on this site take his advice hes got a lot of experience with fire chickens. But I still have a question. I heard from you guys as well as many others i need to change the ecm to an 86-89 with wiring kit,get a custom calibrated prom, and change to 24lb fuel injectors. Does anyone know a good place that sells tham as a 305 to 350 conversion kit or at a reasonable price seperately. Any help is highly appreciated
