Trouble with my coolant temp sensor

Hey guys, Im having trouble getting my coolant temp sensor off of my 85 Z28 TPI 305. I took the alternator off and the bracket so I have a good look at it. But I cant seem to find a way to get it off of there. Im trying to slip a 3/4 box wrench around it but it wont seem to do the job. The new temp sensor is 3/4 so I assume the old one is to. Any suggestions or advice would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Don't assume, make sure you have the correct size so you don't round off the hex of the sensor. Maybe someone used loctite previously to seal it in there. Should be too much of a pain since the TPI manifold is aluminum.

Theres another sensor directly left of it and a coolant line right above it. So Im having trouble getting at it.

Re: Trouble with my coolant temp sensor

Here's my solution to this Problem. Get one of the old style Crafstman 3/4 Combination Wrenches, Clamp the Open-End in a Vise, Heat the Shank of the wrench just above the Vise until it has a good glow. Slowly bend the wrench to 90 Degrees, then Oil quench it in 85W/90 oil (make sure you are away from anything else that's flammable 'cause you're gonna get a fireball when it hits the oil). Once cooled, hold the box end in your hand with the edge of the box even with the Knuckle of your little finger and mark the wrench 1" back from where your Index Knuckle touches the shank of the wrench. Clamp in Vise at Mark and heat wrench again, slowly bending it the opposite direction.
Oil Quench again and allow it to completely cool before using.

The 4" Offset is Perfect for Getting around GM Intake BracketsAnd removing Intake Mounted sensors. Oil quenching retains the tool hardness. I Made Mine because of a GMC Van that had a bad temp sensor.

Re: Trouble with my coolant temp sensor

It looks like Ill have to remove that sensor to the left of it. Does anyone know what that is and if coolant is going to coming out of it. Looks like its about a one inch fitting.
