new springs?

when i put my motor together i was on a budget and i went with an edelbrock performer cam, and i got a set of camel hump heads, i ground the stock valves and i just re used the stock springs because i dint have the money for new ones, so i just now broke the engine in and im wondering if i should put new valve springs in it? is it worth the trouble?

Re: new springs?

oh yea! Valve springs wear out, just like normal chassis springs, and get soft. It's an easy swap out. Grab some comp 981's or equivalent, and throw those in there for $80 or so. You'll feel like you put in a bigger cam, without the big cam drawbacks

Re: new springs?

Yes you need new springs. Stock ones are barely even enough for stock cams when new; and they don't last forever. But don't get all wrapped around the axle about high-$$$ ones. That "RV cam" is so weenie, even stock REPLACEMENT springs are adequate.

Sorry you paid so much for it though. Buying it as the "Performer" cam is ..... how can I say this in a non-offensive way? ..... economically inefficient. You should have bought the same exact identical part this way instead. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...art=SUM%2D1102 Then you'd have money left over for springs. Oh well, too late now.
