When your engine knocks does that mean the crank and rods cant be reused i have a 84 lg4 in a z28 that started to knock about a year ago has been sitting since i start it up every now in then. I would like to rebuild it since it used to be my daily driver my question is will i need just a rebuild kit or rods and crank too?

 

it depends on what the crank looks like sometimes it can be turned down but if its too bad you will need to replace the crank usually the rods will be ok will need new bearings either way if you get a crank kit for it it should come with the right bearings if you just get it turned make sure you know what size bearings you need to get just had to do this on my 89 rs with a 305

one more suggestion when you pull the main and rod caps off make sure you keep them in the right order had a friend of mine put a crank in a cutlass and didnt keep them in the right order and the motor wont spin over had to keep swapping them till he thinks he got it right (maybe)
