Oil Pan Gasket
Anyone changed one of these before? My car needs a new one because it leaks badly...local GM dealership wants about $300 to do it...they get $82 per hour for labor! Does engine need to be lifted?

Re: Oil Pan Gasket
Yea, I replaced mine with a 1piece rubber one. I have a manual trans, which has a colossally large BH making it damn near impossible to do.
You can do it yourself, it's EASY, especially with a 4 piece gasket and an auto trans. Remove your engine bolts (the two), then use a 2x4 on your jack and jack up by the oil pan. Stick a few pieces of wood under you motor mounts to hold the engine up, then remove the jack.
Remove pan bolts, remove old gasket, replace with new. Put 'er back together.

Don't forget to clean the mating surfaces for the gasket. The 1 piece gaskets claim that no sealant is needed at the front and rear of the engine. BS! Do it anyway or you'll most likely have a leak.
