I was cleaning out the basement and found these heads that I forgot about. I was told (IIRC) they were off a 67-68 Camaro and they were rebuilt and had hardened seats installed and ran for about 5K. They have been stored for over 7 years. Can anyone tell me what they are exactly? Thx.

Thx. are these double hump heads? My knowledge is weak on older heads. I heard some bracket racers use these. Are they worth anything?

041 isn't a camel hump head. The casting mark is a triangle. These heads were available on 69/70 300 HP 350. They were considered an intermediate head.

Small valves, press in studs (no guide plates), small springs, need to be completely rebuilt because of all that rust. No accessory bolt holes which is unusual for a 69/70 head. Without accessory bolt holes it's probably a 68 casting which has already been noted.

To completely redo the heads, it will be cheaper to buy a set of Dart heads which will be better right out of the box.

Are they worth anything? Only to someone building a numbers matching car or to someone who races in a class where they need to use casting number from the era of the car. By today's standards for performance heads, they're at the bottom of the pile compared to what's available in the aftermarket.

Those heads have the bolt bosses, but they're not drilled. Quite unusual.

The chambers look like the typical double-hump style chambers. They DO NOT look like later-model smogger chambers, 60s model "bathtubs", the very early low-perf smog chambers that came in 2-barrel motors, etc. But without measurements, that's not real definitive. On the other hand, the casting number is pretty much good at face value, for ID'ing them.

The valves look small; 1.94"/1.50" at most. Meaning, if somebody put seats in them for those sizes, they may not take bigger valves (which they need) without re-doing that rather expensive little piece of machine work.

The valves themselves are also the old stock ones, not even cheep stainless ones. They need to go in the trash no matter what. Another trip to the cash register.

Pull-out studs, stock spring pockets (1.25"), push rod holes still original, look like stock springs (oil splash shields and all), probably no port work. The guides are likely in need of renewal. More $$$$

They'd have to have the holes drilled, no matter what, to use them in one of these cars. Like I said, it looks like at least the material is there. Heads without those bosses have nothing to drill holes into, just the thin walls of the water jacket, which aren't enough to hold a bolt. But in some of the pics, you can see the bosses, so at least it would be possible to drill the holes. Still, there's yet more money that would have to be spent to make them true hi-perf heads and also useful.

Although they have LOTS of potential, by the time you spend enough money to realize it, you're already up to new aftermarket head money, which will get you NEW castings that will outperform those old stockers in every way. The day has come and gone when the only choice for going fast is to work up stock castings. Furthermore, with CNC casting as cheep as it is nowadays, there's not even any "savings" in using old stock heads; the money isn't in the cores, it's in the machine work. Buying machine work in bulk, from a mfr, will ALWAYS be cheaper than buying it one-off from a job shop. Meaning, it's entirely possible that you can buy BETTER aftermarket castings for LESS than the cost of working those old cores.

I think you'd do better to sell them, and turn the cash into something else more suitable.
