heads and cam combo question

help again. lol I think I found a set of better heads than the vortecs. I also want to know if the cam I found will work with it. I want a 170-180cc head right with the miniram intake right? Also the cam should be almost a .500 lift?

BRO-1021004 one type of heads
WRL-042670-1 other heads
LUN-60103LK the cam
Im not sure on the cam but i think one of those heads will do the trick.
And they will bolt up to my dougs headers right?
Sorrry for al the nonsense questions but its my first time and I want it done right the first time.

Re: heads and cam combo question

The MiniRam will "work" with however much head you can jam up under it. It can easily port out to a 1206.

Whether that's a good idea, though, is another matter. Just because a thing can be done, doesn't automatically require that it should be. You're wise not to try to go for overkill in that area.

Heads in the 180-200cc port range are about right; 170 is a bit smallish, and larger than 200 is simply too much.

Those particular World heads are too small for your setup. They're better suited to a motor with a stock cam and intake.

Those Brodix heads are 64cc, aluminum. Your stock heads are 64cc, cast iron. Stock aluminum heads are 58cc, for the same power and "pump gas compatibility" as the 64cc iron. I would not run an aluminum head with a chamber larger than 58cc, or a cast iron one with larger than 64cc. You will, in effect, be LOWERING (downgrading) your compression substantially by doing either of those things.

Your motor has the roller setup in it. That cam is a flat. No sense in downgrading that either.

I'd suggest these heads http://store.summitracing.com/partde...RT%2D10321112P (about the same $$$ as the others, but a better head than the Worlds all-around and a better match to your engine than the Brodix) and this cam http://store.summitracing.com/partde...2D08%2D423%2D8 with steel 1.6 roller rockers such as these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...CA%2D1302%2D16 or these http://store.summitracing.com/partde...CRO%2D73640%2D All of those will work with your stock lifters. Run the .028" composition GM head gaskets to keep the compression up, I don't recall the part # off the top of my head.

Yes all of these will bolt up to SBC headers.

Re: heads and cam combo question

Those heads will still be streetable right? Would it be smart to get some new roller lifters. Well the whole setup will. I mean 10mpg is great enough for me. lol

btw. this will ensure helping me get into the 12's with a good tranny and rearend and stall?

Yes. That combo would not be radical at all; it'll work fine as a daily driver.

If yours are good - roll freely, have no big scratches or other damage, and don't make a bunch of noise now - they'll be fine to re-use.

Should be easily able to beat that. Tuning skill will help GREATLY. Don't expect a mail-order tune to be your "perfect" solution.

Easily into the 12s. I'd suggest a 3.73 rear gear and about a 2800-3000 RPM stall. A durable transmission, kind of goes without saying, would be good.

Re: heads and cam combo question

Sofa you are awesome man. Thankyou for all your help. I dont have any fuzzy areas anymore except one. My stock bottom engine block, Would it be wise to get a new one? I am tempted to later mb do something else to the engine, but it would be later on. I saw on summit its like 800 bux for a new block. Is it a worth while block or is it like the lifters, if theyre working leave em?
