Valve lash

Just wondering if the procedure (sp?) in the Haynes manual for adjusting the valve's applies to all the chevy small blocks...or at least mine....my set up is a 350 block 79-80 and 64-66 327 camel hump heads and from what i can tell stock valve train...I think it just has a small cam and a .30 bore. Also I need new lock nuts for them...can I use the one with the allen head lock in them? or should I just stay with the factory style nut? Thanks in advance

Re: Valve lash

You can use poly locks if you want, but i'd just say get new factory style stover nuts. Sometimes the rocker studs you have aren't tall enough for the polylocks, or the top isn't flat enough, etc etc.
Do a search on here for EOIC method. Use that. And yes, it's the same for all SBC's, but the EOIC method is better than the haynes way.

Re: Valve lash

I have a little question about the EOIC methodI read it a few times but it's not as easy as when your looking at the engine...but anyhow this is what I got from it....you put a breaker bar or whatever on the crank bolt (I assume this is with the plugs out?) and rotate the engine until an exhaust valve opens all the way and then you adjust the intake valve that is beside the exhuast that just opened?..now I can go over the engine and adjust the rest of the intake valves that are closed or is it just any valve that is closed? then rotate the engine again and do all the valves that are closed rite? and that would be it?

Re: Valve lash

Did you read the EOIC method very carefully?
Yea, pull all the plugs. Rotate the engine over until you see:

EO - Exhaust JUST STARTING TO OPEN. Then adjust THIS CYLINDERS intake valve.
IC - Intake JUST STARTING TO CLOSE, then adjust this cylinders EXHAUST valve.

Get a buddy to start rotating it over, and watch for something that's the exhaust just opening or the intake just closing, then do those, mark the ones you've done and keep going. It takes a while, but it's the most accurate.
