Car in question is in my user info.
The car revs fine and is really responsive when in park
But sometimes when I floor it when I take off from still, the engine will either about die or will die and the engine light comes on.

Another thing that can bring this about is if Im driving and I keep pressing the gas pedal really fast it will either die and the light comes on or the light come on and it will run like garbage until I restart it.
Engine seems like it takes 5 seconds or so to respond when I floor the pedal

The engine is missing right now as well as the transmission is going out. It takes a while to start moving from a standstill and shifts poorly from 1st to 2nd

A kid I work with is going to be swapping transmissions out for me soon as shop credit

I just didnt know if it had anything to do with my transmission being crap or if there were other problems there. I dont want to spend too much money on getting it running right if I rebuild a carb'd 350 for it, but was wanting to see if it was an easy fix until I rebuild the new engine.

wires look relatively new like the previous owner tried to fix the problem as well. Would have checked the plugs but I cant get at them due to all that emissions crap

 

Pull the codes when the light comes on and tell us what it says.

 

Im guessing the light still needs to be on when I pull the codes?
If so it may be difficult to do that. Never acts up when its in park and usually only when its driving now, so Id have to do it on the side of the highway which may be a little dangerous

 

If the light came on, the codes will be stored in the computer's memory until you disconnect the battery. You can pull the codes at any time.

 

iam having the same problem it's not ur trans.i have replaced allmost every thing so far.and still it act's okay till i get out of drive way then dies and wont go faster than 10mph new cts,iac,maf,fpr,ff,fp,tps,egr.motor is new.intake isint i have old 305 injectors.and the fuel pump wines loud!and it's new?

 

Mine doesnt die really anymore except when Its parked or at a stoplight. Had another trans put in and it stopped dying on me. But then the shifter cable went bad and had to buy one of those garbage chinese ones. Its too short or something so it never goes into park. Always tries to drive backwards in park position and dies after a while with the e brake on. Now the transmission is ruined as well because the idiot I had put my trans in was driving it around without the TV cable hooked up!
