Coolant Leak On Harmonic Balancer Pulley...

After a woe of cooling issues, I have yet another.

The other day I noticed a small leak under the engine, and tried to determine the source. All i could find was where it was dripping onto. The coolant, was leaking on the area behind the belt on the harmonic balancer.

If it isnt the harmonic balancer its the lowest pully to the ground and in the center of the engine.

I am not sure where the water pump is, as some have thought it could be that, was recently replaced, this could not be a cracked block could it? As there was a time where pure water was run, and there were freezing temperatures. I did however drain all the water out before morning came, but who knows...

Thanks in advance for your help!!

The water pump is most likely leaking,,, it is located above the harmonic balancer and is bolted to the front of the engine. The water pump is driven by a pulley, this pulley is above the harmonic balancer pulley. You should probably replace the water pump. I have an '87 IROCZ, I have had to replace my water pump twice.

This is the correct answer.

This was unnecessary.

The water pump has a small "weep hole" on it's snout where coolant will seep out when the front bearing seal of the pump gives up the ghost. You can't easily see this hole with the water pump pulley installed so it can be a bit of a head scratcher to a novice who hasn't experienced a small block Chevy with a weepy pump.

You already got good advice on this, above.
