Looking for some tips on pulling an engine and trans at the same time. It's a tpi 305 and 700r4, basically what all do I need to remove to make it easy? It's bone stock and coming out of my 89 Iroc. Thanks in advance guys

Its hard, with a t-5 its actually pretty easy, but autos not so much.

Crank pully and rad out should give you alot of clearance.

Yeah I was thinking: pull runners and plenium, pull dist out, remove accessories and crank pulley + balancer, remove fans and rad.. wonderings if there's anything else.. and if it would actually be easier to just pull the tranny first.. I'll be doing it at work during downtime between jobs so I'll have a lift and all my tools at my disposal.. just looking for tips to make it as easy as possible.. thanks guys

Re: Pulling engine and trans togather.. tips

The easiest way is to pull the engine & tranny together. Basically, drain the coolant system and pull the radiator, remove the main pulley, drop the drive shaft and torque arm, tranny brace, shifter cable on drv side of tranny, place a hydraulic jack under the end of the tranny (facing fore & aft), I think that there is one electrical connector tho the tranny, disconnect the speedo-cable at end of tranny, remove the distributor, all ground cables to back of heads, unplug all connectors and set aside or hold up. Disconnect the fuel lines.

If you have a plug for the back end of the tranny where the drive shaft goes, you dont even have to drain the tranny fluid, other wise drain the tranny fkuid as well as the engine oil, and coolant.

When you remove stuff, tag them AND take pictures. The tags and pics will be very important to you later in the re-assembly process.

Bolt a beefy chain from the back side of the pass side head to the front end of the dvr side head. Pick up this chain several links behind of center of engine.

See, if you dropped the tranny by itself, you still have to go thru all of this stuff anyway, however, you do not have to get to the engine-to-tranny bolts, which is very difficult.

Well if you got a T5 tranny then you can just take the drive shaft out and tranny crossmemeber and connections for speedo and stuff, and then just unbolt it from the bell housing, the T5 is rather light so its pretty easy. then just pull the motor and bell housing together.
