Car jerks and will not go fast
I always put 89 in my car if I put 87 it will feel like the same thing that is happening now and it jerks and feels like it's just going to stall when I punch it. I have 89 gas in it but I have no clue whats wrong, when im in park and rev it it's fine.

Re: Car jerks and will not go fast
is it carbureted? if so does a puff of black smoke come out when you punch it? if black or blue smoke comes out when ya punch it you probably have to big of squirters ...if no black smoke you could have to adjust your accelerator pumps and possibly to small of squirters...but either way that initial hesitation or bog is most likely in the carb/ throttle body

No look at his signature thingy... it says '92 Throttle Body. So did this just start when you last filled up? If it acts just like it does with the lower grade then maybe its just bad gas... whether the gas just sucks or if there was some crap introduced or stirred up that could clog your filter or injectors... It doesn't take near the fuel or cylinder pressure to rev an engine with no load...

All I know is I parked it at a friends house that I was sleeping over and it was fine. When I woke up this morning is when I had the problem.

87 vs. 89 won't make any difference at all if the timing is set properly.
Sounds more like a fuel delivery or ignition problem. When did you last change the fuel filter? Last tune up? (cap, rotor, wires, plugs, etc.)

I have never changed the fuel filter. I changed plugs, wires, coil for the ignition. Could it be the torque converter?

Jerking, maybe. No power, no.
Change the fuel filter. Not a big expense for something that should be done from time to time anyway.

Re: Car jerks and will not go fast
One more question probably stupid for admitting what I did but I tried to do what my friend did with his mustang and just beat the **** out of the cat and have it blow out. The only thing is if that messed everything up then how come it took untill the next morning to take effect? I am going to probably take out the cat tonight even though it's raining and see.

Well, having the whole story is always a good thing.
When you beat on the cat, you broke up the cat bed. As you ran it, the pieces jammed/melted/caked together, until they finally plugged up the outlet of the cat.

Re: Car jerks and will not go fast
Cut off the cat now I need a pipe to weld from headers to the muffler which would be same size as cat. I still need to replace the fuel filter anyway
