New Camaro Owner
New Camaro Owner
I am a new camaro owner and i have a few questions. I recently bought a 91 Camaro Z28 with a 350. The other day i was driving around and my car started to run poorly. I stopped when i got to a good pull of spot and turned off my car. After it cooled a little i checked all my liquids and what not and nothing seemed out of the ordinary but when i tried turning on the car it would only turn on for a second and then die. When i kept my foot on the gas turning the ignition i could start up the car but only if i kept my foot on the gas. Once the car warmed up it would drive again so i didn't have to have my foot on the gas at all times. It used to idle higher tho (now around 650) and when i put it in park it would jump up to 2k and now it doesn't, is that a problem?
I also have a humming noise when i get low on gas, is that what noise the fuel pump makes when i am low on gas?
And lastly, why did chevy put such a small gas tank in the Camaro?
thanks for reading

Idling at 2k in park is a problem. Idling at 650 is not.
First step would be to make sure the ignition is up to snuff. If you don't know the condition of the spark plugs, cap, and rotor, now would be a good time to change them. Spark plug wires, air & fuel filter, and O2 sensor wouldn't be out of line, either.
The next step would be to verify fuel pressure. The fuel filter may take care of it, but low fuel pressure may cause problems similar to what you describe. A clogged fuel filter can burn out the fuel pump, and filters aren't typically changed as often as they should be.
The humming is probably the fuel pump. If it really gets noisy when the fuel level goes down, it may be on its way out.
15-ish gallons isn't so small. How big of a tank would you expect?

Re: New Camaro Owner
thanks, i'll have to try that sunday on my day off. I'd bet the filters clogged again. it was pretty dirty the first time i changed it and now i've put seafoam in there so i'm sure there is more gunk clogging it up again.
15 gallon tank works it would just be nice to get a little farther between gas station visits.
