camaro is running funny....

Im no stranger wen it comes to the camaro iv been crazy over the car sence i was 14 but I am a stranger wen it comes to working on the car i never had that father that would work on cars so i know very little wen it comes to working on cars i know just enough to get me by. I recently bought a 1984 camaro z28 with the 305 H.O. and my problems im having is it takes awhile for my car to "warm up" enough to wen i hit the gas pedal it wont stall. another thing is wen i first start going the car doesnt want to go at all its very hard to even make it to 45 mph i have to work for it and it usely takes a little over a mile to even reach that speed. Last problem is wen im just driving and im driving normal my car seems to jerk violently and it wont stop untill i eather let off the gas or dump more fuel into it. Im sorry this was so long but im in need of help to make this car live as it once did in 1984

Sounds like your engine isn't getting the fuel it needs. When you hit the throttle, you're allowing more air into the system, the carb is supposed to follow suit and add more fuel to the mix. a good place to start would be to replace the fuel filter, It's a good idea to replace this anyway if it hasn't been replaced in quite a while. If that doesn't work, buy a screw-on fuel pressure gague, if your fuel pressure drops when you give it more throttle, probably your fuel pump or your fuel pressure regulator.

My car's a TPI so I can't give you specifics, but there's a starting off point for you. good luck.
