Hood insulation removal??

Gents - my hood insulation looks terrible, contemplating ditching it. Car has perfect paint on the hood - will removal of this ugly blanket ruin the paint? Paint is not original.

Agreed - its there mostly for noise muffling than for heat insulation. It won't hurt anything to remove it.
