Difficulty starting

I've got an 86 T/A with the LG4 engine with minor mods. I put in a XE262H cam from comp cams, a performer rpm intake, a set of hedman headers and some minor exhaust work. I've got a really good set of wires and just put in some iridium plugs, but I am having problems starting my car. This year a wire loom fell on one of the header pipes and melted, but i've rewired it and put it out of the way. The car will make the starter noise (that revving up sound) but it just doesn't seem to catch and can take 6 or 7 tries before it finally catches. Could this be my starter? Timing? Distributor? Any help would be great.

That would be the starter... the "Bendix", or drive, has gone bad.

Time for a new one.
