Re: dart heads with summit cam??

Yes the Dart heads will "work better" than smoggers.

No the cam is still not any good, nor "right" for your car. It is garbage, and needs to be replaced with something more appropriate.

Considering how CHEEEEEEEP cams are in the grand scheme of things, it is NOT WORTH hanging onto a "wrong" one, because "it's paid for". Especially not some turd like that POS. You'll MAKE BACK, IN CASH, the price of a new one and a set of lifters, in about 5 tanks of gas; and then after that, every revolution of the engine with the better cam in it instead of the garbage one, will PUT CASH BACK INTO your pocket. Keeping it is what one might call penny-wise and dollar-foolish; pushing $100 bills found laying on the sidewalk out of the way, to pick up the dime hiding under them. Not the mark of intelligent decision-making.

When you buy the heads, get the first spring upgrade (to 1.45" OD springs), and order a Comp XE274, or a Lunati 60103, at the same time. With lifters of course.

Re: dart heads with summit cam??

minus all the craziness above, i agree.
Summit cams arent worth the postage paid. They are made of cheap metal, and wear quickly.
I have used the comp cams xtreme energy 274h cam. Its a 230/236 duration @.50 and .490 lift.
This in my unprofessional opinion is an awesome street cam and does well on the strip as well.

Re: dart heads with summit cam??

Right;

Why keep the cam? What's the benefit in that? (besides a couple of pennies)

Re: dart heads with summit cam??

Yes you need a higher CR than what you have now.

Those heads will give you a certain amount of that. Enough, IMO.

That will give you a moderately rough idle... probably not as rough as what you have now, but DEFINITELY nto smooth.

That is a correct statement, its rough enough to hear it but wont rock the car.
What is your estimated compression ratio now ?
quick funny story, i was sitting in traffic going towards the holland tunnel in nyc and a old(er) lady rolled down her window and said "your car really needs a tune up" i just replied thank you and smiled.
