help with speedo

hi, i have a 91 formula that we stwitched over to a carb setup. in the process we got rid of the computer and a bunch of uneeded wires in the engine bay. Do i need the computer for my speedo to work? I see a purpish wire coming from the tranny what is that?

Re: help with speedo

The purple wire is for your VSS. I'm not a 100% but you shouldn't need the computer for your speedo you should just be able to run your Vss wire directly to the speedo and be good to go.

I think originally the VSS goes to the computer first and is then sent to the speedo, so by cutting out the computer you just broke the circut but should be an easy fix.
