Do I need a cowl hood with super victor intake?
Ok, So I recently was forced to purchase a super victor intake manifold part number 2925 because the ports on my head were too large for any other intake. Anyway, it is clearly a much taller intake then the other intakes I was looking at. I placed it on my car with the carb on, but i dont have my nitrous bracket yet and i also dont have my air cleaner on yet. The hood closed. (I have the formula hood)
Does anyone with this intake have suggestions on wether or not I will need a cowl hood or any other raised hood for that matter?

You'll need a cowl hood of some sort. I only have the Performer RPM and the lowest reasonable air breather, and it barely fits under my stock hood.

Thanks guys. Time to start shopping and deciding how high to go.
I had the performer RPM sitting on there and it sits about an inch lower then this super victor. Are you using a drop base air filter or regular one?

drop base air filter

That's one of the BIGGEST mistakes I see people make. A drop-base air cleaner ONLY works if the lid can still be far enough above the air horn that the incoming air doesn't have to squeeeeze through a tiny little crack and made a sudden sharp 90° to go down into the carb. Kind of defeats the purpose of high-flow heads, big carbs, etc. In other words, the ONLY time a drop-base air cleaner is ACTUALLY any good, is when you don't need it foir hood clearance; and all you're using it for is to add a couple more inches of width to the filter medium.
Firebirds have MUCH lower hoods than Camaros. So if some setup is "tight" on a Camaro, you can be pretty sure, it's not going to work at all on a Bird.

I have a 7/8" drop base with a 3" element.
I did some testing when I was on the dyno a couple years ago and there was only 3-4 RWHP from that drop base to an open carb. Personally, I'm OK loosing 3-4 HP and keeping the stock hood.

I am now on the look out for a good used cowl hood, either 3 or 4". I wanted to keep the body stock looking but I guess that idea went out the window when I decided to build a pretty strong motor.
Hey sofa, adding a carb spacer would just increase the RPM power range correct? Like if the intake is made for 3500-7000 RPM then it would increase it to lets say 4000-7500 rpm? I have read about people using them and had guys at car shows suggest one to me, but i dont want to increase the RPM power range because as of now i am not going to be making much power down low and I want to keep it streetable.
