Strange Starting issue
Since its spring again i want to get my car back on the road but before i put it in my backyard for the winter it had a starting issue.
Every morning when i would go to work it would start right up but if i stopped somewhere to get gas or something and turned the car off it wouldnt start again. I mean i would turn he key all the power accessories worked and it wouldnt make any sound no noise at all,no clicking,cranking...silence. To get it started i would either
A. have to wait 15min to an hour and keep trying again and again then eventually it would start right up
or
B. if i had someone jump start the car it would start right up, They wouldnt even need to let it charge at all once the cables were connected i would turn the key and it started right up.
I do not know if its the battery, starter, connection from the battery to the starter or ignition to the starter. If anyone can help that would be great.

Re: Strange Starting issue
It's your starter. You my friend are a victim of the dreaded "hot start".
Whats happening is the manifolds or headers are getting so hot that it heat soaks the starter. Mine starting doing this after the headers went on and didn't stop until a put a mini starter in.
There is a tech article on how to fix this using a ford remote solenoid. It will provide added amps to the starter to get it working, the same thing is happening when someone is jumping your car there are added amps getting to the starter.
After reading through the tech article I was going to go that route but decided it was t omuch to make a big heavy starter work, so I bought a LT1 mini starter and havn't had any hot start issues.

Re: Strange Starting issue
Thanks alot, been thinking about that problem for the whole winter, Is there another way to solve that, maybe a heat sheild or cover? and if i do go with an Lt1 starter is that a simple bolt and plug on? or are there modifications needed?
thanks again

Re: Strange Starting issue
I tried the heat shield from summit and it didn't do anything to help the matter. Yes the lt1 starter will bolt in no problem, they do have different sized bolts than our original genI starter, I found that out on installation and had to search around the shop to find one that would work.
You don't have to use a lt1 starter, it is just my choice. When I was going through this I was trying to get around spending the $140 for a reman starter, So I started with the heat shield - did nothing, than I searched ebay for a mini starter and came across a procomp one for $75 - stopped working 5 months later, at which point I gave in and spent the money on the reman lt1 starter and loved it, starts the car much easier and it sounds like a regular starter (the ebay one sounded like an old mopar)
also take a look at the tech article, maybe you want to go that route it's like $10 in parts it'll just be extra wires in the engine bay.
