Ideas for trying to beat an ls1 4th gen

ok, I have an 1986 iroc camaro that came with a 305. the tpi system leaned out the moter and ruined it back in 1994. so a shop fixed the car for the gal at the time by puting a 350 shortblock in the car with the stock 305 heads and re-built the fuel injection. now, I found the car out in the field 10 months ago.the car has 165,000 miles on it and the moter has 80k on it. I havent been driving it very much because it has lots of little bs wrong with it. I went to warm it up the other day and it lost oil pressure. now im looking at a moter pull. But im the kinda guy to where if I have to pull it out, why not put something better back in? my tpi system is acting up as well. im tired of dealing with the old setup. I dont doubt tpi can make power, but i hear its way to short-winded. Ive thought alot about an lt1 swap. I cant do an ls1 because i dont have alot of money. I also planed on some weight reduction too. my car is an auto and ill keep it that way. but my tranny started slipping in od when i went for a top speed run awile back. so im going to be ripping into that as well. what should i do? try to stay under 1500 bucks if possable. my goal is high 12s with no loppy cam. or as fast as i can go with an aggresive cam lope
