Main studs

I previously bought an engine that was completely rebuilt and decided I wanted to do modifications before I ever put it in, so now I am lookign at more horsepower then I anticipated so I decided to put ARP main studs in. I just wanted some opinions on this because I know some people say I shouldnt do that unless I have the whole thing disassembled and line honed. But I dont want to sink much more money into this engine. From peoples experience I just want to get a consensus on this, if it is wrong or right or what you guys think about it. The motor is a 350 bored .060 over and my main concern is that my cam makes power until 6500 and I will probably keep the rev limiter at 6k for a while but do you think these higher rpms without havign it lined honed could be problematic? Does the little more clamping force from the studs really throw clearances off that much? I have heard mixed reviews. Thanks for all your help.

I'd be worried about the rod bolts, not the main bolts.

Re: Main studs

Why do you say that? I have ARP rod bolts. Is it because you thought I had stock rod bolts are something to do with the main studs I did? Thanks for the help.

Re: Main studs

The rod bolts have a greater impact on the survivability of the engine than the mains do.

Re: Main studs

Agreed. I do have nice ARP rod bolts though so what i was really wondering was the chaning from main bolts to studs after the engine was assembled goign ot be a problem ? Thanks

Re: Main studs

if you have the studs put them in, otherwise the caps are really the weak points...I can`t remember ever seeing a main bolt stretch beyond yield or break, but caps...that`s another story
