A TPI Fuel Quirk
Howdy,
On the record, I am by no means mechanically inclined yet, although I did put in a new alternator myself. I got my Iroc this last summer and I've run into a few things that I'm not sure about.
1) The car supposedly has a newer short block 350 that replaced the original 305, but I don't even know where to begin looking for the stamp. It does have the original TPI though.
2) There is definitely something up with the fuel system but I don't know what it is. I think it has something to do with the cold start valve/starter/fuel pressure. When I start the car from sitting over night, it rumbles a second then the starter just grinds for up to 20 seconds before it starts. After i run it for a while and turn it off, it'll start right back up with barely any grinding.
As for the pressure, a mechanically inclined friend was checking it by sight and he said there's almost no pressure behind the system, but that was when it had been sitting a while. I'm thinking maybe a fuel filter as I can drive the car fine. Gas gauge bounces but I'm sure that's the slosher mechanism gone bad.
Any suggestions would be great.
