fuel pump question
i ave a 1996 trans am an i have recently replaced the fuel pump. but where i messed up was that i put the wrong one in. or at least thats what the mechanic said. he said i put like a 35 pound in and i need like a 50. and that this is causing the car to not start after it has been running for a while and is warmed up, and whenever i start it normally it takes a few tries.but i really dont want to have to take out the tank and everything again... its such a pain. so i was wondering if i coul put in an inline pump and leave the other intake pump in. and would this solve the problem instead of having to change the intank pump?

Re: fuel pump question
i havent checked myself but the mechanic i took it to said thats what i had put in it. but i took the pump out of a camaro z28 of my friends
Re: fuel pump question
what year z28 is the pump out of? what type of injection did it have? check the pressure with a gauge or have him hook it up and prove it to you...sometimes mechanics are quick to blame the home mechanic for problems.

Re: fuel pump question
it was a 94 or 95 i got the pump out of and it was tpi. but would putting an inline pump on while the intank pump is still installed work properly? or would it cause any problems because i havent heard of people doing that before
Re: fuel pump question
I'm pretty sure thats not "the best" idea, but i have heard of people using both together, you just have to wire accordingly. Probably not worth it in the end for a stock car...I know its a pain to switch but it comes with owning one of these. I think a tpi pump should put out 41-46 psi, I know the mpfi pump in my 86 puts out that much. Definetly check it with a gauge.

No problem, but remember for the future that you should probably use a new fuel pump on every install, even if you know someone who has a used one. Along with replacing the strainer and the pulse dampener that sits on top of the pump. You know how hard it is to get to that pump, you don't wanna take chances with parts that may be on their way out
