Code Readers Who the best Most dependable?

Want to buy a code reader. Will be restoring 2 GTAs over the next 2 yrs or so. Will likely be making the cars stock intending them for shows. So I want to have everything factory correct.

They will not be trailer queens but will not be driven hard either.

Want something dependable and accurate.

Any suggestions?

Re: Code Readers Who the best Most dependable?

Found this on ebay. Are there better out there?

and this one

With a little research I realized that I will have to look for OBD-I scanners/readers. I think the above will not cover my requirements. Ill keep looking.

Dude, find a paper clip and go to town, you don't need a reader for gm obdi cars. Yes, a standard good old metal paper clip will do you right. Now try a search using 'paper clip' and the author 'Vader' and you'll get a full detailed humorous explanation that I've stolen a few dozen times.

Agreed, a good old paper clip (or needle nose pliers, or twist tie, or small length of wire, or hairpin, or pretty much any other bendable metal object) works fine. However, if you really want more diagnostic data, get or make an ALDL cable, and download WinALDL. You can then use your laptop to view realtime engine parameters, and sensor readings.
