Quick question, easy answer? Car wont run
Quick question, easy answer? Car wont run
The car has spark and fuel but a few components from the engine are missing. The car will fire but runs awfull. The engine and car have 100k. I was thinking that by putting on the airtube and 02 sensor combined with putting whatever those hoses should go to will fix it ( picture attached). It would be nice to know where Im at before digging in. I would like to know your thoughts. thanks very much for looking

Welcome aboard thirdgen.org.
It would also be helpful to know year, engine (I'm guessing '86 or '87), induction (can see now it's TPI), and any modifications.
If the O2 sensor isn't there, it will never run right.
No alternator?

Re: Quick question, easy answer? Car wont run
Its a 1987 350 tpi bone stock. I bought it at an estate auction. I heard from a friend it ran fine until the guy took it apart to start on the manifold gasket leak. I believe a box got lost of the parts in the process. The alternator is off at the moment, I had to put a new manifold on. The car runs so bad it dies, it doesnt come close to running right. Is there some smog stuff missing, is that what those hoses are for? Does a vacum leak occur? Id like to figure out if i get the intake on therefore fixing the o2 sensor, replace the stuff missing from the end of those hoses and of course put the alternator back on will this most likely run right?

Your best bet may be to find someone with a TPI car that is local so you can compare. That or get a shop manual and go through everything.

Yes, there is some smog stuff missing. The pump and diverter valve are not there, but wouldn't cause the car to run bad, and shouldn't be causing a vacuum leak. It wouldn't hurt to check that none of the vacuum lines are broken or disconnected.
Try hooking up the air intake and MAF sensor assy, not having that in place will definitely make the car run bad.
