Please help: Knocks detected in winALDL

WinALDL is showing spark knocks during acceleration even though I set the timing to 0 degrees. I am not getting an error flag set. 1988 Camaro 305 TBI, everything stock. I did a tune-up. Replaced plugs, distributor cap, rotor, plug wires, fuel filter, Set timing to TDC. Running a tank of high octane gas. This car was my brother's and had been sitting for a while. Only 43K actual miles. I added some injector cleaner to the gas. Injectors look like they are working ok. I have been reading around the forum and wonder if the knock sensor could be bad? I checked and it reads 100k ohms. Is this the correct knock sensor for this engine? I have read that some use a 3.9K sensor. I checked the local autozone and the sensor that they carry is also 100K ohms. Any ideas would be appreciated.

what was the count on the knock sensor?

It reads 84. That was from a short trip in the neighborhood. About 2 miles, with a lot of stop and go.

Is it normal for the knock sensor to record so many spark counts and not set code 43?

Trust me that's not allot of knocks, especially if the car wasn't fully warmed up before driving it.

Now this is my opinion mind you, but I wouldn't be worried until it was climbing under idle or every time you give it a little throttle while cruising. Just starting the engine can cause the ECM to "see" litterally thousands of knocks according to the factory service manual. My car has about 22K miles and the count is usually around 45 just starting it and letting it idle til it's warm. Goosing the throttle when it's cold will reliably make my numbers climb.

And just knock counts alone isnt that bad, its the KNOCK RETARD thats bad then is starting to remove spark and thats not good..
I got alot of knock counts to when I fire it up.. Got alot of knock retard too but im changing my knock sensor (hoping its false knock the old sensor didnt look to happy...)

So if there only knock counts and NOT knock retard you should not worry..

How do you tell if you are getting knock retard? Does winALDL give a timing retard reading? What is it called?

WinALDL dosent have that info.
Try using TTS Datamaster. Much eaiser to read out all the info,
and it saves everything to one file..

Get back here with an logfile and I check it out for you (or PM me.. how you want it is up to you )
