Stalling Problem

All of a sudden my car is stalling and I cant figure out why. If you dont give it gas when it starts up it will stall, and after it starts running you have to keep giving it gas to keep it running. Occasionally it will stay running without giving it gas but not for long. What should I look into? (85 Iroc 5.0 TPI comp cams camshaft 260/260 .444.444 112LSA)

Re: Stalling Problem

Join the club, I have been battling an issue similar to this for a very long time. Here are some things to look in to:

Throttle Position Sensor
Idle Air Control Valve
Mass Airflow Sensor and/or 02 Sensor
Timing
Vacuum leak/s
Faulty Distributor
Faulty Fuel Injectors

The list probably goes on but those are my first guesses. Good luck.

Re: Stalling Problem

I just solved my problem and it amazes me that it was the solution all along. Take your IAC out and buy some throttle body cleaner, spray in to the front of the throttle body and then clean that out. Then spray in to where the IAC screws in and let that run out, spray the small opening underneath the two front blades on the front of the throttle body as well. You still see the hole I am talking about because when you spray in to the IAC port, dirty and cleaner fluid run out of this hole. Once that is all sprayed and no more buildup comes out with the fluid, let it dry a bit, then put it all together and I bet it will make a world of a difference. It completely cured my stalling problem.

Re: Stalling Problem

thats pretty solid idea for anyone to do. sometimes the coking is so much you may have to reset the sensor to read correctly. i once had the butterfly stick open even after cleaning off the soot from years of sitting in the same position.

Re: Stalling Problem

Although you should definitely make sure your IAC is clean, or new in my preference, I was talking about cleaning the port that it plugs in to, more specifically because what happens is it get gummed up and plugged with buildup and air can't pass through like it needs to. Also be sure to disconnect the battery for a couple minutes after everything is plugged back in, like mentioned above, to let your ECU restart. Start her up and let it run for a few minutes and then test it out.
