Re: Head studs

If the head bolt holes go into a coolant jacket like most SBC blocks do, use a normal pipe dope. I like PST myself. If the holes are blind, just a little bit of oil is needed. Head studs are not torqued in. You screw them in by hand and just snug them up. The clamping force is from the nut, not from the stud.

but wouldent when you torqe the bolt the stud would screw farther into the block? or if you ever had to take the bolt off wouldent it take the stud out with it?

Re: Head studs

well it could if the nut was stuck on the threads but as soon as the pressure is released from the head there is no longer any preassure on the stud so only the nut should come off when done properly
