Fuel Pump Problem
Fuel Pump Problem
I am having a problem with the fuel pump in my 88 camaro. This car has sat for a long time (only 43,000 actual miles). During the heat of the day here in Florida, the fuel pump locks up and will not run and the car will not start. It does not prime and when I bypass the relay and apply 12 volts directly to the relay, it does not run. During the early mornings or after sunset it will start up fine and the car will start. Question is: Is the fuel pump gunked up from old gas? Can I use an injector cleaner or something in the fuel tank to clean it out or is the pump just toast?
Re: Fuel Pump Problem
i'd replace the pump before you start a fire and blow up the car.
If you're going to do more testing on the pump, at least pull it from the tank before you apply more power to it when you suspect it to be "locked". It's drawing an enormous amount of power and generating a lot of heat when you bypass relays etc... Sounds like a fuel pump motor going to me though
