Blue Smoke?
Hey guys i just bought a 1990 firebird about two weeks ago and i noticed everytime i start it up in the morning quite a bit of blue smoke comes out also if i rev the engine up a bit it will do the same thing and every once in awhile but not all the time at WOT some blue smoke will shoot out.Since ive had the car it hasn't burned any oil at all and i was just wondering if this will hurt my engine at all,how much longer my engine will last like this and how much it would cost to fix the problem? its at 181,000 miles right now.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Blue Smoke?
Depends on what the blue smoke is from.
You should pull the plugs and look for oil deposits, and also get an e-mission
test. The blue smoke could be a combination of oil and unburned hydrocarbons.
Do a basic tune up and change the oil/filter, etc.

Re: Blue Smoke?
Some blue smoke at start up is usually valve stem seals. But with 181k on the clock, the rings could be getting a little weak too. I don't think you're in any immediate danger of hurting anything, but a tune-up couldn't hurt. It just seems the engine is getting worn out.

My mechanoc just looked over my car with fine tooth comb- have smoke prob on start up too- he said that is just waht happens with engines like this (TA w? TPI 5.0/V8) and with age I guess...he said nothing to worry about maybe a little oil as mentioned before but drive it like its not there...hmmm- would rather it not be there but at least I know it won't hurt it.
