Question about 84 HO Z28

I am looking at a 84 z28 i found for sale locally. its 5.0 5spd but its missing the tranny. Not a problem since i have an extra one but my question is did the HO come with the l69 motor or lg4? It seems to be in good shape but he wants 1000. I wouldn't pay that but I think wouldn't pay more then 700 for it since registration isn't current either.

Re: Question about 84 HO Z28

I'd probably pay up to 1K, 'specially if I already had a replacement trans. The snorkle set up's worth 10% of that alone, good gears and maybe a few other extras? Let us know how it goes.

Re: Question about 84 HO Z28

i have the full vin its 1G1AP87G6EL187549. I called him and talked to him and he was a complete moron. He told me that AC/heater never worked on any thirdgen , which is no big deal didn't really care too much for that anyway. When i asked him if it turns on he said yes. So I said ok i'll go over with a batterie and start it before i buy it. He gave me some crap about not wanting to start it with no trans because if the flywheel gets caught on something it'll mess up the motor. I lol'd and called bullshit but i said fine i'll take my trans install it in 20 minutes and drive it he said no. Something tells me there's something wrong with the motor that he doesn't want me to know. So i passed on it. I told him if you won't let me try and start it I won't buy it and hung up.

That's unfortunate, but a good call. Too bad for the car.

Re: Question about 84 HO Z28

Even if the engine it is shot a 5 speed 84 H.O. is kinda rare. i had a 84 H.O. auto and sold it. Had no idea they were kinda rare. Plus you would want to refresh the motor anyway. If the trans is gone than he probably dropped it beating the snot out of it.

Re: Question about 84 HO Z28

I didn't really want to put too much money into it. I have a 91 RS vert i'm currently working on. Need to finish the 5spd swap but I figured for 1000 assuming the engine was good why not. But if i still have to replace the engine its not worth it to me. For the money i'd be spending i'd be better off getting an l98 car

Re: Question about 84 HO Z28

L69 = 5.0 HO

The L69 is what MADE a Z28 and 'HO' car... no other engines were the 'HO' engines. Only the L69.
