You should consider pulling the spark plugs out and checking them for wear, proper gap, and signs of fouling. Sometimes when the motor sits up for extended periods of time with out being started, the natural build up of debris on the electrode gets spongy and can cause intermitent miss fires, poor spark strength, or even corode the tip to the point that it begins to break up. Also check the EGR, it could have developed a dirty ring around the diaphram, making it want to intermittantly stick, and of course check all the vacuum lines for signs of cracking at connection points and bends, a little vacuum leak can mess with the emmision equipment in odd ways.

Is the check engine light coming on? If not, then I'd start re-checking the ignition components and vacuum lines as suggested above. If the light is on, use the paperclip between the a and b terminals to get the code(s) and then call your local autoparts store for interpretation or a manual if you have one.

Get a fuel pressure gage on it, preferably one you can watch while you drive. Stale gas could have plugged the fuel pick-up sock, or killed the fuel pump. Could also have done unkind things to the rest of the fuel system (regulator, injectors).
