Heads for a 305

Will 14096217 heads from a 350 - 285hp crate motor fit my 305? The 14096217 have 1.94 intakes and 1.50 exhaust. Standard 305 heads are on it now. Also are they worth putting on? I may add a cam later.

Re: Heads for a 305

The original 305 heads are better. IIRC, that crate uses low compression 76cc chamber heads, which suck on a 350 - and worse on a 305. The stock 305 heads are actually quite good, so use them. Lots of guys even use the 305 heads on their 350s, because they are better than most 350 heads.

"217" heads are the marine versions of the 083s. They are 64cc heads.

In the 80's 305 heads are light weight heads and used to raise c/r, not that they were better. They have smaller chambers like 58cc's as apposed to 76cc's on a 350 (these are in general). This was a cheap way to get a car to perform better on a budget. However a heavy car or too high c/r will crack the heads, hence light weight. The easiet way to tell a light head is the bolt edges along the exshaust side will look scallopped compared to a heavy weight head looking more straight. 350's also had light weight heads, so some poeple will try to pass them off as performance heads. I seen 624 heads on ebay promoted as hi preformance heads for $500-$600 and this is pure untruth. They are not telling the complete truth and tring to take your uninformed money, I have a set you can have for free. Anymore with vortec's and aftermarket products makes you looking at the $ per end result with more education. Depending on your motor there are better choices now.
