leaking thermostat housing, 305 TPI

i have an 85 trans am with a 305 TPI engine. i have done everything i know how to do but i can't get the thermostat housing to seal to the intake. i've tried 3 times now and still nothing. i've cleaned both surfaces the best they can be. i've torqued them to the proper specs. i've tried several gasket makers after just the regular gasket didn't work. any help would be very helpful, thanks.

Re: leaking thermostat housing, 305 TPI

I put a thin coating of RTV on both sides of my T-stat gasket, then rubbed between my finger and thumb to work the sealant all around it before installing and torquing down. Even after doing this, I still saw some coolant pooled on the intake manifold next to the T-stat housing. A pressure tester showed that it was actually leaking from the upper radiator hose / housing seal. Double clamping the upper radiator hose to the housing solved that problem.
