rocker arms tightness
rocker arms tightness
ok i just bought a lo5 longblock from autozone and when i got home i noticed that some of the rocker arms had alittle wiggle in them and others had none at all.so i tightened the ones with the wiggle but then i read that they are suppose to have alittle wiggle in them. so how tight are they suppose to be? are they all suppose to be the same?

They won't be the same, because sitting there some valves will be open, some opening, some closing, some closed.
They were probably okay, because there is no oil in the hydraulic lifters right now.
But, what you could do is loosen all of them, bring the engine to #1 top dead center, and just take the slack out of all of the rockers (just tighten until the push rod shows some resistance to spinning with your fingers). Rotate the crank 1/2 turn, repeat tightening any rockers that are still loose. Rotate the crank another 1/2 turn (#1 will be back to TDC), repeat tightening any rockers that are still loose. Rotate the crank 1/2 turn again, tighten any remaining loose rockers (should be down to 4 by now). Now, give every rocker arm nut one more full turn down.
As long as you didn't overtighten any of the rocker arms (develop a feel for the spinning push rod by having them loose, just snug, over tight, etc., so you know where "just snug" is), you won't have to adjust them ever again.
