Re: Oil Pump Pick Up Tube Install Help

Put the pickup in the freezer overnight, or in a bucket of ice for a little while. I've heard of people putting the pump in the oven for a while as well. As difficult as it seems to get in, they can come loose, so make sure you tack weld it onto the pump.

Re: Oil Pump Pick Up Tube Install Help

What I did was slip a 5/8" (IIRC) wrench over the tube, and hammered on the wrench. The freezer/oven idea is a lot better though.

Also, if you don't have a welder, use a roll pin. Install it where you want it, drill it, then remove it all and run it through your parts washer, then reinstall and put in a roll pin. Don't drill completely through the oil pump, just through the "bottom" housing. That way the roll pin can bottom out against the "top" housing. (top = towards the top of engine. When you have the engine upside down like that it will be the bottom....)

Re: Oil Pump Pick Up Tube Install Help

I hope it will work. I tried freezing the pick up and it did not work, so I should try heating up the oil pump. I have no idea why it is so damn hard to get it in.

Re: Oil Pump Pick Up Tube Install Help

Slip the wrench over the tube as suggested above and drive it on with a hammer. I've always done it this way with no prob. Once you get it on you'll need to set the pick up tube where it is about a half inch or so off the bottom of the pan then tack the pick up tube to the pump so it can't pivot down out of adjustment.
